Abbie Cornish (Lochinvar, New South Wales, Australia, August 7, 1982) is an Australian actress and rapper, also known in the field of rap as MC Dusk. She is known for her performances in the comedy series Life Support and in the film Somersault.
Early Life of Abbie Cornish:
Cornish was born in Lochinvar, New South Wales, the second of five children. Her father ran a recycling business and her mother was an amateur photographer. Her sister, Isabelle Cornish, is also an actress.
Abbie Cornish is the youngest of a family of 5 children. Her mother is an amateur photographer and her father runs a business specializing in recycling paper. One of his sisters, Isabelle Cornish is also an actress. She grew up on a farm before moving to Newcastle (Australia). She quickly demonstrated an interest in independent cinema and foreign films.
Vegetarian since the age of 5 (the year she started working in modeling), in 2001 she was voted “sexiest Australian vegetarian”. Her parents divorced when she was 16.
She gets involved and performs on stage with Australian hip-hop group Blades Of Hades, which she talks about following her involvement in Jimmy Kimmel Live !, in January 20107. Her family lives on. currently in Hunter Valley.
She began her career at the age of thirteen, when she took several modeling jobs after reaching the finals of a Dolly Magazine competition. By the time she turned 16, Cornish combined her acting jobs with her studies, as she had the intention to become a veterinarian.
In 1999, she won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Young Actress for her role on the ABC show Wildside. In that same year, she was offered a role in the film The Monkey’s Mask, which marked her film debut hers.
In 2004, Cornish appeared in the short film Everything Goes alongside Hugo Weaving. In that same year, she also acted in the film Somersault, for which she received the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actress, the FCCA Award for Best Actress, the Inside Film Award for Actress, and several other awards. Cornish received critical acclaim for her performance in the 2006 film Candy, co-starring Heath Ledger. She has also participated in A Good Year, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Stop-Loss.
In 2011, Cornish starred in Madonna’s second film as a director, W.E., a feature film that tells the story of Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII.
In November 2016 it was announced that she had joined the main cast of the Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series where she would play Cathy Muller, the series was released in 2017.
