After spending her first years of life in Rotterdam, she lived in Antwerp from 1991 to 1996. Then she returned to her hometown. She moved to Amsterdam in 2004 and Berlin in 2014, in search of the inspiration for the success of the German Pirate Party. In 2011,
she changed her name to Ancilla Tilia van de Leest, after her birth name Linde van de Leest was published in the Playboy. Since then, she mainly used her two first names, Ancilla Tilia (ancilla means ‘slave, servant’ in Latin, tilia is Latin for linden). She has used her full name Ancilla van de Leest since the announcement of her party leadership for the Pirate Party during the 2017 parliamentary elections.

Van de Leest attended grammar school in Rotterdam and worked as a waitress when she was discovered by a photographer. She dropped out of school and when she was eighteen she appeared under her birth name as Playmate in the men’s magazine Playboy, May 2004 edition. Then she left for Los Angeles to work with different photographers and models.
In June 2009, Van de Leest appeared on the cover of the Dutch Playboy, with a photo series by photographer and video clip director Carli Hermès. Van de Leest posed three times in 2010 for the American Playboy Special Editions.
In September 2012 she was again on the cover of the Dutch Playboy. She also appeared twice on the cover of the Dutch magazine FHM. In addition, she decorated the front page of, among others, the daily newspaper Sp! Ts, Rotterdams Dagblad, Panorama, Aktueel and Viva.
Van de Leest had a preference for fetish photography, especially latex clothing, corsets, high heels and stockings. As a fetish model, she appeared on the covers of Bizarre (United Kingdom), Marquis (Germany) and The Picture (Australia), among others. Van de Leest ended her modeling career in 2012.
Van de Leest entered the Quote Challenge Rally in 2007. This resulted in a collaboration with Jort Kelder and rapper Lange Frans for the production of a video clip.
Van de Leest followed the course ‘Acting for the camera’ at Theater School De Trap in Amsterdam. She became a presenter of, among others, the program Feesten met Ancilla on the weblog Flabber. In addition, she has appeared in commercials for Opel, Ax, Hyves, Honda, Holland Poker, Pownews, Beat de Mol and Twestival, among others.
In 2010 Van de Leest was seen in a series of promotional videos for Radboud University. After criticism from both the institution and the student council, it was decided not to continue this cooperation. In 2012, she was also seen in an episode of the comic internet series The Girls of This.
In November 2013, Van de Leest appeared on Comedy Central in the first episode of the Dutch comedy series Popoz. She plays coroner Leo, who takes off her clothes in the fantasy of the main characters Ivo and Randy, but in the meantime is seriously doing her job.
From 2007 to 2009, Van de Leest appeared several times as a sidekick in Giel Beelen’s radio program Nachtegiel, which was also broadcast on television channel Nederland 3.
She also became a sponsored poker player for Unibet Poker. Van de Leest wrote the magazine ‘Ask Ancilla’ for the magazine FHM from 2008 to 2010, which eventually became a page-long column that was published monthly until 2010. In 2011, she wrote a candid letter to herself for the book ‘To my younger self. In 2013, she was the winner of BNN’s National Travel Test in the group of well-known Dutch people.
Ancilla van de Leest was a candidate in Expedition Robinson 2014. However, she was voted out first in the second episode. At the end of 2015, she participated in the television program De Slimste Mens.
