Gerard James Butler (Paisley, Scotland, November 13, 1969) is a British film, television actor and producer. After studying law, Butler turned to acting in the mid-1990s with small roles in film productions.
He made his film debut with Mrs. Brown (1997), followed by the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).
In 2000, he played Dracula in the horror movie Dracula 2000 with Christopher Plummer and Jonny Lee Miller. The following year, he played Attila, King of the Huns, in the miniseries Attila (2001).
He was cast as the role of Erik, The Phantom, in the adaptation of Joel Schumacher’s film The Musical The Phantom of the Opera (2004) alongside Emmy Rossum.
