Nazanin Boniadi (in Persian: نازنین بنیادی, Naa-za-neen Bon-yaadi Tehran, May 22, 1980) is a British-Iranian actress. Until 2014 she participated in the American series Homeland in the role of Fara Sherazi.

Early Life of Nazanin Boniadi:
Nazanin was born in Tehran in the middle of the Islamic Revolution, her parents moved to London when she was a child. During her childhood she played the violin and danced ballet. she she studied at a private school and then moved to the United States.
There she graduated, with honors, in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Irvine. At the ICU, she won the Pin-Chun Chang Undergraduate Research Award for molecular research based on the theme of cancer treatment and possible solutions against heart transplant rejection. She was also the assistant editor-in-chief of MedTimes, the UCI undergraduate medical journal.

Boniadi is fluent in English and Farsi. Until the middle of 2000 she was a dedicated Scientologist, deeply believing in the humanitarian devotion of the church. Her mother had also been a Scientologist. In 2005 she was noted for setting a record for selling Scientology books.
In 2004, she had a brief relationship with Tom Cruise. According to the documentary Going Clear, her relationship with Cruise was not accidental since the Church of Scientology had prepared and impersonated her for this role. The church would have also shortlisted her along with dozens of other women as a potential wife for Cruise, but she was not selected.
Boniadi later left the Church of Scientology and today she defines herself as a “non-practicing Muslim”.
Professional Life of Nazanin Boniadi:
Boniadi changed her career to medicine and began trying acting in 2006. Her first major acting role was as Leyla Mir in the Emmy Award-winning daytime series General Hospital and spinoff series General Hospital: Night Shift, becoming the lead actress on the sign a contract to play a Middle Eastern character in American daytime television history. She is also the first actress of Iranian origin to sign a contract on an American soap opera.
She was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Best Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2008 for her role in General Hospital.
Boniadi has also played supporting roles in several of Hollywood’s major film productions, including Charlie Wilson’sWar (directed by Mike Nichols), Iron Man (directed by Jon Favreau), and The Next Three Days (directed by Paul Haggis).
She played Nora, a crush on Neil Patrick Harris’ character Barney Stinson, in the sixth season of the hit CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. She reprised this role during the seventh and ninth seasons of the series.
In May 2013, Boniadi joined the cast of Homeland from season 3, as CIA analyst Fara Sherazi. She was promoted to series regular on the fourth season.
Boniadi also appeared in an eight-episode arc of Scandal season 3 as antagonist Adnan Salif. She is currently set to play the role of Esther in the 2016 remake of Ben-Hur.
