She has an older brother, and two younger sisters, Hattie and Rosemary as a result of her parents’ divorce as a child, and her father’s subsequent marriage in 1997 to actress Heather Medway.

Rachel had a self-destructive and rebellious time during her teens. When she was 16, she was involved, along with some of her brother’s friends, in a car wreck. As a result, she was unconscious for several days, has a scar above her right eye, and sometimes suffers from migraines and memory loss.

Shortly after, in late 2006, she began dating her Jumper co-star, Hayden Christensen, (famous for playing Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels), with whom he had a daughter named Briar Rose Christensen; born on October 29, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. The couple separated in early 2017 after ten years together.

Her beauty has not gone unnoticed, holding in 2008 the 30th position in the ranking of the sexiest woman in the world according to the American version of FHM magazine. She has posed as a photographic model for various magazines.

She has also been highlighted as one of the best-dressed actresses of the moment. She started college, but dropped out after a year, following the advice of her father who encouraged her to fight for a niche in the world of dramatic art. She began by lending her image in advertising campaigns, and in 2003 made his debut on the small screen.

In August 2003, she appeared for the first time as Summer Roberts in The OC, and although her character was not expected to have a long run in the series, she ended up being part of the series’ regular cast, starring in a romantic relationship with Seth Cohen, a character played by Adam Brody, who was his partner both on and off the screen.

The success of The OC among young audiences earned her several awards, including those obtained at the 2005 Teen Choice Awards. Her film debut was in 2006 by director Tony Goldwyn in the film The Last Kiss, a version of the Italian L’ultimo bacio. Along with her appear Zach Braff and Jacinda Barrett among others.

She later appeared in Jumper, an action film starring Hayden Christensen and directed by Doug Liman, which was a notable box office success in 2008.

Professionally, she recognizes that her intention is to appear in movies and, although she is very grateful for her role in The O. C. she does not believe that its cancellation after its fourth season was a great setback, but rather the opportunity to participate in new projects.

In 2011, she starred in the series Hart of Dixie, where she plays Dr. Zoe Hart who aspires to be like her father and become a cardiothoracic surgeon.

After four years of residency in a hospital in New York, Zoe does not get a scholarship and takes an offer to move to the South and work in a small medical clinic in the town of Bluebell.
