Amitabh Bachchan (born October 11, 1962) is the most popular actor of Bollywood. He is the son of famous Hindi litterateur Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

He gained great popularity during the 1980s and has since become one of the most prominent figures in the history of Indian cinema. Amitabh has won several awards in his career, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, three National Film Awards and twelve Filmfare Awards.

He holds the record for the Best Actor Filmfare Award. Apart from acting, Bachchan has played a role as a playback singer, film producer, TV presenter and an elected member of the Parliament of India from 1979 to 1979.

The host plays the role in the popular show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. The address ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ made by him in this show has been much talked about.

Early Life:

Born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, Kayastha family, Amitabh Bachchan’s father, Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a famous Hindi poet, while his mother Teji Bachchan belonged to the Karachi city of undivided India in what is now Pakistan.

Initially Amit ji was named Inquilab which was derived from the motivational phrase ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ used during the Indian freedom struggle.

But later the famous poet Sumitranandan Pant named him ‘Amitabh’. ‘Amitabh’ means “eternal light”. Although his surname was Srivastava and he belongs to the Kayastha caste, his father quoted this surname as Bachchan who published his works.

It is his surname with which he used in films and for all public purposes. It has now become the surname of all the members of his family.

Amitabh is the eldest of Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s two sons. His second son’s name is Ajitabh. Her mother Teji Bachchan had a keen interest in theater and was offered a role in the film but she preferred to be a homemaker.

Her mother also had some contribution in Amitabh’s career choice as she always insisted that she should make the center stage her career. Bachchan’s father died in 2003 while his mother’s He died on 21 December 2007.

Professional Life:

Bachchan began his career in films as one of the seven actors in the film Saat Hindustani, directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, acting with actors like Utpal Dutt, Madhu and Jalal Agha.

The film did not achieve financial success, but Bachchan won the Best Newcomer Award at the National Film Awards for his first film. This successful commercial and reviewed film was followed by another film called Anand (1971) at which time he Worked with popular artist Rajesh Khanna.
