Minka Kelly (Los Angeles, June 24, 1980) is an American actress. She played the role of Lyla Garrity on the NBC series Friday Night Lights from 2006 to 2009. She has also had roles on The Roommate and the 2011 version of Charlie’s Angels.

Minka was born in Los Angeles, California, as Minka Dumont Dufay and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is the only child of Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay and Maureen Perez Kelly, an exotic dancer of Italian and Puerto Rican descent. Minka is of Irish and French descent on her father’s side. According to Kelly, her childhood was “very difficult,” and she resented her father for abandoning her and her mother.

Professional Life of Minka Kelly:
At age 19, after finishing high school at Valley High School (Albuquerque), Kelly returned to Los Angeles. During a photo audition for a modeling agency, she was approached by a former Playboy Playmate interested in representing her. She placed her as a receptionist at a medical clinic that would provide her with a breast augmentation operation in exchange for the hours worked.
She eventually decided to object to the procedure, which cost him her dismissal. However, this approach of her to the field of medicine prompted her to study for a year as an assistant surgeon. She spent four years dedicated to that vocation, during which she auditioned as an actress, before joining the NBC television drama Friday Night Lights, based on the film of the same title. In between, she had small roles in films like State’s Evidence and a recurring guest role on the sitcom What I Like About You.
To prepare her character as cheerleader Lyla Garrity in Friday Night Lights she trained with the Pflugerville High School cheer team. Kelly received praise for her performance on the series, with The New York Times calling her performance a “heartbreaker.”
